- Card Ladder
- S&P 500 total return data
Both series show the growth of an initial $1,000 on a logarithmic axis, so equal vertical distances are equal percentage moves rather than equal dollars. Points are annual except in 2021, where the CL50’s recorded readings are plotted as dated observations.

Fractional ownership
Own a share of every card.
A graded card is one object and it costs what it costs. A share of one does not. A single position spreads across the whole shelf, and the card itself stays in the vault the entire time.
Positions are intended to be bought and sold on Foil. No card is ever shipped, reauthenticated or insured a second time.
Percentages shown on the cards are illustrative. They are sized the way weights in a capped index are sized rather than as stakes in a single object, and they are not holdings, allocations or an offer of any share in anything. Statements describing Foil's intended structure, products and timelines are forward looking and remain subject to change, to applicable securities laws, and to the determinations of qualified counsel and regulated partners. This is not an offer to sell or a solicitation to buy any security.
How an index works
From a shelf to a position.
Four steps, in order, each one the precondition for the next. The card is bought once and never moves again.
01
Selection
Cards are screened against written rules before anyone looks at a price: grade, certified population, depth of transaction history, and a limit on how much of an index any single asset can become.
Published as a methodology, not a list of favourites.
02
Acquisition and custody
Selected cards are bought and placed in professional custody, insured, with the certification number recorded against the holding. The card stops moving at this point and does not move again.
Certificate, vault and audit, all checkable.
03
The index
The holdings become one position rather than a hundred. Value is struck on a stated method at a stated time, so the number can be reproduced by anyone with the same inputs.
One share is a claim on the whole basket.
04
Trading
Positions are entered and exited without a card being shipped, reauthenticated or insured a second time. What it costs to leave is published alongside what it costs to arrive.
Spread, depth and discount to value, on the screen.
